Let the smaller number is =X

And the larger number is= Y

According to question,

X + Y= 60

=> X = 60 - Y-------------(1)

AND

3X = Y +8

=>3 ( 60 - Y) = Y +8

=>180 -3Y = Y +8

=>4Y =172

=> Y=43

Now putting the value of Y in equation (1)

X =60 -43

=> X= 17

Therefore

The smaller number is = 17

And the larger number is=43
