Answer:

the required numbers are 39 and 33

Step-by-step explanation:

given that,

let one number be x

and

the another number be y

so,

according to the question,

x + y = 72 .....(1)

also,

given that,

one of the number is 6 more than the other

so,

x = y + 6. ....(2)

putting the value of x on (1)

x + y = 72

y + 6 + y = 72

2y = 72 - 6

2y = 66

y = 66/2

y = 33

now,

putting the value of y on (2)

x = y + 6

x = 33 + 6

x = 39

so,

the required numbers are

39 and 33

VERIFICATION :

Given from (1)

sum of numbers = 72

x + y = 72

39 + 33 = 72

72 = 72

now,

from (2)

x = y + 6

39 = 33 + 6

39 = 39

so,

Answer :-

The required numbers are 33 and 39

Solution :-

Sum of two numbers = 72

Let other of the number be x

one of the number = 6 more than the other number = x + 6

Accordind to the question :-

⇒ x + 6 + x = 72

⇒ 2x + 6 = 72

Transpose 6 to RHS

⇒ 2x = 72 - 6

⇒ 2x = 66

Transpose 2 to RHS

⇒ x = 66/2

⇒ x = 3

Other number = x + 6 = 33 + 6 = 39

Therefore the required numbers are 33 and 39

Verification :-

Let us check

x + 6 + x = 72

Substitute x = 33 and x + 6 = 39 in the above equation

33 + 39 = 72

72 = 72
