x + y = 8

x + y = 4 [ x - y ]
x + y = 4x - 4y
8 = 4 [ x - y ]
2 =  x - y

x - y = 2
x  + y = 8
========
2x = 10

x = 5

x + y = 8

y = 8 - 5 = 3
