Answer:

x is 54 and y is 33

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the two numbers be x and y such that x>y

now x + y = 87........(i)

also x + 2y = 120.....(ii)

subtracting (i) from (ii)

x-x + 2y - y = 120 - 87

=> y = 33

now putting y = 33 in (i)

x+ 33 = 87

or x = 87 - 33

or x = 54

\huge\underline\mathfrak\red{Question:}

The sum of two number is 87 .If twice the smaller number added to large number the results 120. Find larger number

\huge\underline\mathfrak\green{Answer:}

Let one number be= x

Let the other number be = (87-x)

According To the Question -

2(87 - x)  + x = 120

174 - 2x + x = 120

 - x = 120 - 174

 - x =  - 54

x = 54

Hence, the larger number = 54

Smaller number = 87-x = 87-54

= 33
