the sum of two number is 99. if one exceeds the other by 9, find the number

Let the first number be a

Second number = a+9

According to question

Sum of numbers = 99

=> a +a +9 = 99

=> 2a + 9 = 99

=> 2a = 90

=> a = 45


First number = 45

Second number = 54
