Answer- The above question is from the chapter 'Linear Equation in One Variable'.

Linear Equation in One Variable: An equation containing one variable with degree one is called linear equation in one variable.

Examples:

1) 2x + 3 = 0

2) 4z - 5 = 1

3) 2k + 2 = 4

Question: The sum of two numbers in 60. One of the number is 4 less than the other, then find the other number.

Solution: Let one of the number be x.

So, the other number will be x - 4.

Sum of the two numbers = 60

According to the question, x + x - 4 = 60

2x - 4 = 60

Transposing 4 to R.H.S, we get,

2x = 60 + 4

2x = 64

x = 64 ÷ 2

x = 32

⇒ x - 4 = 32 - 4 = 28

∴ Required two numbers are 28 and 32.

QUESTION GIVEN :

The sum of two numbers in 60. One of the number is 4 less than the other find the number....

CONCEPT / CHAPTER :

Linear equations in One Variable.

SOLUTION :

Suppose that one of the numbers, the greater number is X

Hence the other number is X - 4

Their sum is 60 aa mentioned in the question earlier.

Hence We can write the following equation algebraically.

So,

X + X - 4 = 60

=> 2X = 64

=> X = 32

X - 4 = 28.

Hence the two required numbers are 32 and 28 respectively.

Answer :

Hence the two required numbers are 32 and 28 respectively.
