Let the two numbers be :- x, y

Solution :-

x + y = 12

=> x = 12 - y

x / y = 7

=> x = 7y

12 - y = 7y

=> 12 = 8y

=> y = 12 / 8

=> y = 3/2

Answer:

  • The two numbers whose sum is 12 and quotient is 7 are 10.5 and 1.5

Given :

  • The sum of two numbers is 12.

  • Their quotient is 7.

To find :

  • The two numbers =?

Step-by-step explanation:

Let one number of the two numbers be x.

Then, the other number automatically becomes (12 - x) Since, it has been given in the question that the sum of both the number is 12.

So, the first equation between the two number is,

x + (12 - x) = 12

Now,

Let, x > (12 - x)

So, we can form another equation between the two numbers and i.e.,

➮ x/12-x = 7

➮ x = 7 (12-x)

➮ x = 84 - 7x

Now,

We shall the put the above obtained value of x = (84 - 7x) into the first equation.

So we have,

➮ x + (12 - x) = 12

➮ (84 - 7x) + (12 - x) = 12

➮ 84 - 7x + 12 - x = 12

➮ -8x = 12 - 12 - 84

➮ -8x = 12 - 96

➮. -8x = - 84

➮ x = - 84/-8

➮ x = 10.5

And, another number is (12 - x) which would be,

12 - 10.5 = 1.5

Hence,

The two numbers whose sum is 12 and quotient is 7 are 10.5 and 1.5
