The sum of two numbers is 120 and one of the numbers is 3 times the other. Find the value of the numbers.

Let one number is x and Another is 3x


Their sum = 120

x + 3x = 120

4x = 120

$x = \frac{120}{4}$

x = 30


Numbers are :

x =>30
3x => 3(30) = 90

according to question ,

x+y=120..............{1}
x=3y....................{2}

putting the value of x in {1} we get

x+y=120
3y+y=120
4y=120
y=120/4
y=30

putting the value of y in {2} we get

x=3y
x=3×30
x=90

hence the numbers are 90 and 30
