The sum of two numbers is 128 and their difference is 16. Find the number

x+y=128 (equation 1)

x-y=16 (equation 2)

adding equation 1 and 2

2x = 144

x= 72

Let the first number = x


So the second number = 128 - x

Their difference = 16


X - (128 - x) = 16

X - 128 + x = 16

2x = 16 + 128

X = 144/2

X= 72


So the first number = 72

And second number = 128 - 72 = 56
