Answer:

The two numbers are 14.5 and 11.5

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the 2 numbers be x and y ;

so,

it is given that :

x+y = 26

x= 26-y (eq. 1)

also according to question

x-y = 3. (eq. 2)

using eq. 1 in 2 we get ;

=> 26-y-y = 3

=> 26-2y=3

=> -2y=3-26

=> y=23/3 = 11.5

now ,

=> x+11.5 =26

=> x= 26-11.5

=> x=14.5

Hence the 2 numbers are x=14.5 and y=11.5

Given,

The sum of two numbers is 13 and their difference is 3.

Let two numbers be a,b

Sum of two numbers = a+b=13_______(1)

Difference of two numbers = a-b=3_____(2)

Subtract equation(1)and (2)

a+b-a+b=13-3

2b=10

b=5

Substitute b=5 in equation (1)

a+5=13

a=13-5

a=8

Therefore, the values of a,b is 8 and 5.
