the sum of two numbers is 1324 the bigger number is 3 times the smaller number. what is the smaller number?

Hi,

It is given that x+y=1324

Let X be greater no

So by second information x=3y by substituting this In Ist equation we get3y+y=1324

4y=1324

Y=1324/4=331

Y=331

sunilpalIwal851: It is given that sum of numbers =1324 ,let the numbers be X, y so x+y=1324(given).and as per second condition greater number is three times of smaller, so, let X be greater and y be smaller so x=3y by substituting this in x+y=1324 ,we get 3y+y=1324,.so 4y=1324 ,y=1324/4=331
