Let the two numbers be x and y

The sum of two numbers is 138

i.e, x+y=138----(1)

The difference of two numbers is 88

i.e, x-y=88———(2)

(1)+(2) is

x+y+x-y=138+88

2x=226

x=113

x=113 in (1)

113+y=138

y=25

The two numbers are 113 and 25 respectively

I hope it will help you…

Answer:

The required numbers are 25 and 113.

Step-by-step-explanation:

Let the greater number be x.

And the smaller number be y.

From the first condition,

\sf\:x\:+\:y\:=\:138\:\:-\:-\:-\:(\:1\:)

From the second condition,

\sf\:x\:-\:y\:=\:88\:\:\:-\:-\:-\:(\:2\:)

Adding equation ( 1 ) and equation ( 2 ), we get,

\sf\:x\:+\:\cancel{y}\:=\:138\:\:-\:-\:-\:(\:1\:)\\\\\sf\:x\:-\:\cancel{y}\:=\:88\:\:\:-\:-\:-\:(\:2\:)\\\\\implies\sf\:2x\:=\:226\\\\\implies\sf\:x\:=\:\cancel{\frac{226}{2}}\\\\\implies\boxed{\red{\sf\:x\:=\:113}}

By substituting x = 113 in equation ( 1 ), we get,.

\sf\:x\:+\:y\:=\:138\:\:\:-\:-\:(\:1\:)\\\\\implies\sf\:113\:+\:y\:=\:138\\\\\implies\sf\:y\:=\:138\:-\:113\\\\\implies\boxed{\red{\sf\:y\:=\:25}}

The required numbers are 25 and 113.
