GIVEN THAT :-

  • Sum of two number = 14
  • Product of two numbers = 45

TO FIND :-

  • The two numbers.

SOLUTION :-

Let the two numbers be x and y.

  • Sum of two numbers = 14

       \longrightarrow\sf x+y= 14 \\\\\longrightarrow y= 14-x \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ .............(1)

  • Product of two numbers = 45

        \longrightarrow\sf xy = 45 \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ .............(2)

Substitute the value of y in eq(2),

       \longrightarrow\sf x(14-x) = 45 \\\\\longrightarrow 14x-x^2= 45 \\\\\longrightarrow x^2-14x= -45\\\\\longrightarrow x^2-14x+45= 0 \\\\\longrightarrow x^2-9x-5x+45= 0 \\\\\longrightarrow x(x-9)-5(x-9)= 0 \\\\\longrightarrow (x-9)(x-5) = 0 \\\\\longrightarrow \bf x = 9 \ , \ x= 5

The two numbers are 9 and 5 .
