The sum of two numbers is 15. When one of those numbers is added to three times the other, the result is 27. What are the numbers?

To Find :-

The first number.

The second number.

Analysis :-

Take the two numbers as variables and make an equation accordingly.

Solve the equation to get the value of the variable and apply it in the numbers given.

Solution :-

The the first and the second number be x and 15-x respectively.

According to the question,

\sf 27=15-x+3x

By, taking the like terms

\sf 27-15=3x-x

\sf 12=2x

Finding the value of x

\sf x=\dfrac{12}{2}

\sf x=6

The first number is 6

Second number = \sf 15-6

Second number = 9

The second number is 9

Therefore, the first and the second number is 6 and 9 respectively.
