Second number = 2 - a

According to question

a - (2-a) = 20

=> a - 2 + a = 20

=> 2a = 22

=> a = 11

First number = 11

According to question

x + y = 2 .........(i)
x - y = 20
________ {elimination method}
2x = 22

So, x = 22/2

x = 11

Put the value of x on equation (i)

x + y = 2

11 + y = 2

y = 2 - 11

y = -9

So, the numbers are 11 & -9.
