x + y = 20 -----(1)

The difference of them is 4 .

x - y = 4 -----(2)

Solving 1 & 2,

x + y = 20

x - y = 4

2x = 24

➝ 2x = 24

➝ x = 24/2

➝ x = 12

putting in 1 , equation

x + y = 20

➝ 12 + y = 20

➝ y = 20 - 12

➝ y = 8

The greater of the two numbers is 12 .
