Let first number be x

second number be y

So, according to question

x+y=22--------1

x-y=4-----------2

Adding equation 1 and 2 we get

⇒2x=26

⇒ x=13

⇒ Put in 1

13+y=22

⇒y=9

You can also do it

By using elimination /substitution/cross multiplication method

x=13 and y=9

Step-by-step explanation:

GIVEN :-

sum of the numbers is 22

and their differences is 4

FIND :-

find the numbers

Now ,

let 1st number is x

and 2nd number is y

A/c the question

x + y = 22 \:  \: ...........(i) \\ x - y = 4 \:  \:  \:  \ ...........(ii)

after adding the equation

(i) and (ii)

 =>  \: 2x = 26

 => x = 13

now , the value of x put in equation (i)

x + y = 22 \\ 13 + y = 22

 => y = 22 - 13 \\ =>  y = 9

hence the numbers are 13 and 9 .
