Let’s assume one number be x and the other be y.

Given:

x+y=231

x-y=63

so x=147 and y=84;

Now we can put the in ratio,

147x:84y

which goes down to

7x:4y

so x is in the ratio to y is 0.57

y is in the ratio to x as 1.75

Hope this helps!

Answer:

The ratio of the larger number to the smaller number is $147: 84$ or 7:4.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

The sum of the two numbers is 231 and their difference is 63.

To find:

The ratio of the greater number to the smaller one.

Step 1

Let the two numbers be $x$ and $y$.

&x+y=231 ..................(1) \\

&x-y=63 .....................(2)

Step 2

Adding equation (1) and (2), we get

&2 x=294,

then &x=147

By subtracting the equation (1) and (2), we get

&2 y=168,

then &y=84

Therefore, the ratio of the larger number to the smaller number is $147: 84$ or 7:4.
