Adding Equation 1 and 2

x + y = 26

+ x - y = 2

2x = 28

=> x = 28/2

=> x = 14

Putting the value of y in equation ( 1 )

=> x + y = 26

=> x + 14 = 26

=> x = 26 - 14

=> y = 12
