Step-by-step explanation:

let the first number be x and second be y

by the first condition ,

x + y = 26 .....1

by the second condition ,

3x - 2 = y ......2

substituting the value of y in the eq.1

therefore , x + ( 3x - 2 ) = 26

x + 3x - 2 = 26

4x - 2 = 26

4x = 26 - 2

4x = 24

x = 24 / 4

therefore , x = 6

substituting the value of x in eq .1

x + y = 26

6 + y = 26

y = 26 - 6

therefore , y = 20

the numbers are 6,20
