x+y=40 eq-1

x-y=4 eq-2

subtracting eq2 from eq-1

x+y=40

x-y=4

- +

so symbol of second equations change as it is in subtraction

2y=36

y=18

so if y=18 then x?

x+y=40

x=40-18

x=22

so ratio if no. is x:y I e 22:18

11:9

Answer:

hey mate here is your answer...

Step-by-step explanation:

let the one no.bex

and another no.be y

according to question

x+y=40........(i)

x-y=4...........(ii)

by eliminating method ..

x+y=40

x-y=4

-------------

2x=44

x=22

x+y=40

22+y=40

y=40-22

y=18

so the ratio is x/y

22/18=11/9

so the ratio is 11:9

hope it may help u
