here is the sum of two no.=45

x+y=45

and x×y=500

so going through 5 is the only common factor which satisfied both euation..

$\alpha + \beta = 45 \\ \alpha \beta = 500 \\ \alpha - \beta = \sqrt{ { (\alpha + \beta) }^{2} \: - 4 \alpha \beta } = \\ = \sqrt{ {45}^{2} - 4 \times 500} \\ = \sqrt{2025 - 2000} \\ = 5$
