Let x and y be the numbers.
x + y = 46
x - y = 20

From the second equation, we can say:x = y + 20

And substituting into the first equation:
(y + 20) + y = 46
2y + 20 = 46

Subtracting 20 from both sides:
2y = 26
y = 13

Let's plug in 13 for y in one of the original equations:
x + 13 = 46
x = 33
The numbers are 13 and 33.
