Solution

Let required number be X and Y.

Then, accounting to question

x + y = 48

➽y = 48 - x \:  \:  \: ...(1)

Again according to question,

x.y = 432

➽x(48 - x) = 432  \:  \:  \: {from \: eqn.(1)}

➽48x -  {x}^{2}  = 432

➽ {x}^{2}  - 48x + 432 = 0

➽ {x}^{2}  - 36x - 12x + 432 = 0

➽x(x - 36) - 12(x - 36) = 0

➽(x - 36)(x - 12) = 0

➽x - 36 = 0 \\  \\ or \\ x - 12 = 0

➽x = 36 \\ or \\ x = 12

Therefore first number X = 36, then second number = 48 - 36 = 12,

And If first number X = 12, then second number = 48 - 12 = 36
