ATQ,

x + y = 49 .........(1)

x - y = 27

=> x = 27 + y .........(2)

Put (2) in (1)

27 + y + y = 49

27 + 2y = 49

2y = 49 - 27 = 22

y = 22/2

y = 11

Put in (2)

x = 27 + 11

x = 38

Thus, the two numbers are 38 and 11 respectively.
