We can solve the problem as under-

Let the first number be, x

it is given that, second number is 5 times the first.

so, second number = 5x .

Now, Sum of two number = 50

Algebraic equation will be -

x + 5x = 50

Solving the above equation , we get

6x = 50

x = 50 /6

x = 8.33

Now second number = 5× (x )

= 5 × 8.33

= 41.65

Since , the sum is in whole number , we will convert the the number as well.

To convert the decimal into whole number we will round off the numbers to nearest whole number.

first number = 8.33

after round off = 8 (as decimal number is less than 5 )

second number = 41.65
