Let the two numbers be x and y.

According to equation

x+y=51.......(1)

x-y=13........(2)

Adding (1) and (2)

x+y+x-y=51+13

2x=64

x=64/2

x=32

Now,x-y=13

32-y=13

y=19

Therefore,the two numbers are 32 and 19.

The smaller number is 19

Given :-

  • The sum of two numbers is 51. Their difference is 13.

 \\

To Find :-

  • Smaller number

 \\

Solution :-

⟼ Let the First Number be x

⟼ Then Second Number will be x - 13

According to the Question :

➞ Sum of Numbers = 51

➞ x + x - 13 = 51

➞ x + x = 51 + 13

➞ 2x = 64

➞ x = 64 / 2

➞ x = 32

________________

Therefore :

  • First Number = x = 32
  • Second Number = x - 13 = 32 - 13 = 19

Thus Second Number is smaller.
