The sum of two numbers is 6. Find the numbers if the sum of their reciprocals is 24/35

(completing the square method)​

Answer:

Let two numbers be x and y

Acc. to question,

x + y = 6.....(1)

1/x + 1/y = 24/35......(2)

From (1) we get,

x=6-y.....(3)

Put (3) in (2) we get,

1/(6-y) + 1/y =24/35

Now solve it yourself....bcz I know this much!!!

Let the two numbers are a & b .

a + b = 6

1/a + 1/b = 24/35

(a + b)/ab = 24/35

6/ab = 24/35

ab/6 = 35/24

ab = 35/4

Now ,

a - b = (a + b)² - 4ab

= √36 - 4(35/4)

= √36 - 35

= √1

a - b = 1

Therefore , 2a = 7

a = 7/2

then , b = 7/2 - 1

b = 5/2

So , These two numbers are 7/2 & 5/2 .
