The sum of two numbers is 65.If twice the smaller number is 4 more than the larger one, find the two numbers

x-23=y [Smaller number is less than 23 than larger]——Equation (2)

From equation (2) we can write,

x-y=23——-Equation(3)

Now adding equation (1) and (3) we get,

x+y+x-y=65+23

=>2x=88

=>2x/2=88/2 [Both sides are divided by 2]

=>x=44

Now putting the values in equation (2) we get,

44–23=y

=>y=21

Large, x=44 and Small, y=21.

CHECK:

Equation(1)

L.H.S.=44+21=65

R.H.S. =65

So both are equal and small one is less than 23 of the large one.
