Let the two numbers be x, y where x > y.

As per condition,

x + y = 7

⇒ y = 7 - x __(A)

2x - y = 5

Now putting the value of y, (from A)

2x - (7 - x) = 5

⇒ 2x + x - 7 = 5

⇒ 3x = 12

⇒ x = 4.

So, y = 7 - x = 7 - 4 = 3.

∴ The numbers are 4 and 3.

TIP: Check whether 2(7) - 5 is equal to 5 or not.
