Question :-

The sum of two numbers is 8 and their difference is 4 . find the numbers .

Answer :-

→ These numbers are 6 and 2

Solution :-

Let required numbers are "x" and "y"

According to the question -

→ Sum of these two numbers = 8

•°• x + y = 8 ......eq .(1)

also given that ;

→ their difference is 4

•°• x - y = 4 ......eq .(2)

Add eq.(1) and (2)

→ 2x + y - y = 8+4

→ 2x = 12

 \implies  \boxed{\sf  \: x \: = \: 6  }

Now , put x = 6 in eq.(2)

→ 6 - y = 4

→ 6 - 4 = y

 \implies \boxed{ \sf \:  y \: = \: 2 }

Hence , required numbers are 6 and 2 whose sum is 8 and difference is 2

Step-by-step explanation:

Correct Question -

The sum of two numbers is 8 and their difference is 4 find the numbers

a) 5 and 3

b) 6 and 4

c) 6 and 2 ✔

d) 4 and 4

Given -

Sum of two numbers is 8, and

difference of two numbers is 4

To Find -

Both the numbers.

Let x and y be the numbers.

Now,

According to the question -

Sum of two numbers is 8

It means,

  • x + y = 8 ........ (a)

And

Difference of two numbers is 4

It means,

  • x - y = 4 ......... (b)

Now,

Adding (a) and (b)

x + y = 8

x - y = 4

---------------

2x = 12

x = 12/2

  • x = 6

Substituting the value of x on (a)

x + y = 8

6 + y = 8

y = 8 - 6

  • y = 2

Hence,

The value of x = 6 , and y = 2
