• Difference of two numbers is 4.

TO FIND:

• Required number.

SOLUTION:

Let x be one number .

Let the other number be y.

=> x+y = 8 .....(I)

=> x-y = 4 .....(ii)

Adding eq (i) and (ii)

=> 2x = 12

=> x = 12/2

=> x = 6

Putting x = 6 in eq(i)

=> 6+y = 8

=> y = 8-6

=> y = 2

Value of x is 6 and y is 2.

Verification:

Sum of two numbers = 6+2

= 8

Difference of two numbers = 6-2

= 4
