Answer :

Let us consider that the two numbers are x and (80 - x), since the sum of the numbers is 80.

Let, x is smaller and (80 - x) is larger.

By the given condition,

80 - x = 4x + 5

⇒ 4x + x = 80 - 5

⇒ 5x = 75

⇒ 5x = 5 × 15

⇒ x = 15

∴ the smaller number is 15.

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Given :-

The sum of two numbers is 80.

If the larger number exceeds four times the smaller number by 5.

To Find

The Smaller Number and Larger also.

Solution :-

Let the larger number be x and the smaller number be y.

According to the question

1st Equation

x + y = 80 …….(i)

2nd Equation

x = 4y + 5

x – 4y = 5 …….(ii)

Subtracting (ii) from (i), we get

⇒ 5y = 75

⇒ y = 75/5

⇒ y = 15

Putting y value in Eq (i)

⇒ x + y = 80

⇒ x + 15 = 80

⇒ x = 80 - 15

⇒ x = 65

Hence, the numbers are 65 and 15.
