GIVEN:

Sum of the numbers = 84

Difference between the numbers = 12

SOLUTION:

Let's just assume the first number to be 'x' and the second to be 'y'.

So, we'll have two equations:

x + y = 84 --------(1)

x - y = 12 --------(2) [When x > y]

==> 2x = 96

==> x = 48

By Elimination method, we can directly find the value of 'x', I.e, 48.

∴ Our first number is 48.

So, given, x - y = 12

==> (48) - y = 12

==> 48 - 12 = y

y = 36

∴ Our second number is 36.

RESULT:

The required numbers are 48 and 36.
