the sum of two numbers is 90 and the greater number exceeds twice the smaller by 15 find the numbers

The answer is 37.5 and 52.5 but how to do it?

Hi ,


Let x , ( 90 - x ) two numbers ,


According to the problem given ,


Greater number exceeds twice the


smaller by 15


x - 2( 90 - x ) = 15


x - 180 + 2x = 15


3x = 15 + 180


3x = 195


x = 195/3


x = 65


Therefore ,


Required two numbers are ,


Greater number = x = 65


Smaller number = 90 - x


= 90 - 65


= 25
