let the numbers be x and y and y > x
then
x + y = 48. ..................(1)
y - ½y = x
or,
y = 2x .................(2)
putting value of y in from equation 2 in 1,
x +2x = 48
3x = 48
x = 16
and so y = 2x = 2•16 = 32

Let the greater number be x and smaller number be y.

Then, According to Question

x + y = 48                    ...............(1)

Also,

y = x/2

2 y - x = 0                   ................(2)
_____________________________________________________

From (1) and (2)

(1) ⇒  x +    y = 48

(2) ⇒ -x + 2 y =  0
________________

                 3 y = 48

And so, y = 16 , then x = 32
