Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Heya.....

Here's your answer.....

Let the other number be x.

The sum of two rational number is 11/12.

One no. is x +  5/12

Therefore the equation is x + 5/12 + x = 11/12

We can solve this equation by two mwthods :-

I st method :-

2x + 5/12 = 11/12

2x = 11/12 -5/12

2x = 11-5/12

2x = 6/12

2x = 1/2

x = 1/2*1/2

x = 1/4.

II nd method :-

x + 5/12 + x = 11/12

24x + 5 /12 = 11/12

24x + 5 = 11

24x = 11 - 5

24x = 6

x = 6/24

x = 1/4.

So the numbers are :-

1/4 and  8/12.

hope it helps .............................

Answer:

Let first number be x

and the other is y

x + y = 11/12

it is given x-y =5/12

x = 5/12 +y

5/12 +y  + y = 11/12

2y = 11/12 - 5/12

2y = 6/12

y  = 1/2 x 2

y = 1

x = 17/12
