GIVEN:

  • The sum of two rational number is -18/19.
  • one of the number is -17

TO FIND:

  • What is the other number ?

SOLUTION:

Let one number be 'y' and other number be 'x'

We have given that, one of the number is –17

  • y = 17

and,

The sum of two numbers is –18/19

According to question:-

One number + other number = Sum of the two numbers

On putting the given values in the formula, we get

\rm{\hookrightarrow x + (-17) = \dfrac{-18}{19}}

\rm{\hookrightarrow x - 17 = \dfrac{-18}{19} }

\rm{\hookrightarrow x = \dfrac{-18}{19} + 17 }

\rm{\hookrightarrow x = \dfrac{-18 + 323}{19} }

\bf{\hookrightarrow x = \dfrac{305}{19}}

  • Other number = x = 305/19

Hence, the other number is 305/19
