  • The sum of two rational number is 4/5. If one number is 2/15, then find the other.

Given :-

➪ Sum of the two rational numbers = 4/5

➪ One of the number = 2/15

To find :-

➪ The other number.

\underbrace\mathscr\red{Solution:-}

➪ Let the other number be x.

As per question,

 ➪  Sum \:  of \:  the  \: two \:  rational  \: numbers =  \frac{4}{5}  \\  ➪ \:  x +  \frac{2}{15}  =  \frac{4}{5}  \\  ➪  \: x \:  =  \frac{4}{5}  -  \frac{2}{15}  \\  ➪  \: x \:  =  \frac{4 \times 3}{5 \times 3}  -  \frac{2}{15}  \\  ➪  \: x =  \frac{12 - 2}{15}  \\  ➪  \: x =  \frac{10}{15}  \\ x =  \frac{2}{3}

Hence, the other number is 2/3.

To verify :-

 ➪  \frac{2}{15} +   \frac{2}{3}  =  \frac{4}{5}  \\  ➪  \frac{2}{15}  +  \frac{2 \times 5}{3 \times 5}  =  \frac{4}{5}  \\  ➪  \frac{2 + 10}{15}  =  \frac{4}{5}  \\  ➪  \frac{12}{15}  =  \frac{4}{5}  \\  ➪  \frac{4}{5}  =  \frac{4}{5}  \\

L. H. S. = R. H. S.

Hence proved.
