The sum of two rational numbers is -1. If one of them is -5/7, then the other is?

Answer:

let x be the other number  

then.....   x + ( - 13/7 ) = -8

taking -13/7 to the right side

x = 13/7 - 8

making the denominator equal  

x = 13-56/7

x = -43/7

one if the rational number = -5/7

Let the other rational number be = x

x + (-5/7) = - 1

x - 5/7 = - 1

x = - 1 + 5/7

x = - 7 + 5

7

x = - 2

7

The other number is - 2/7
