To Find:

  • Smaller number

Solution:

  • Here in the Question we are given that sum of two rational number is 18. Let the one number be 5x and other number be 4x.

According to Question:

➠ 5x + 4x = 18

➠ 9x = 18

➠ x = 18/9

➠ x = 2

Required numbers are,

➠ 5x = 5 × 2 = 10

➠ 4x = 4 × 2 = 8

On comparing we get to know that 8 is smaller 10, that why second number is small.

Therefore :

  • The Smaller number is 8
