Hey friends here is your answer _____________

Let the other no .be x
then according to the problem....
x+(-5/8) = -3/7
x - 5/8 = -3/7
x = -3/7 + 5/8
x = -24 + 35 / 56
x = 11 / 56 ...............

Concept:

Mathematical expression is a mathematical relation or statement or term involves various mathematical quantities, numbers, mathematical operations, variable and other mathematical components etc.

We have to replace the unknown number by variable and have to make a suitable expression using given condition, solving which we can find the required.

Given:

Given that the sum of two rational numbers is -3/7. One of them us -5/8.

Find:

The value of the other number.

Solution:

Given that the sum of two rational number is -3/7

and the first rational number is -5/8

Second one is unknown.

Let the second rational number be x.

According to condition,

x + (-5/8) = -3/7

x - 5/8 = -3/7, since negative and positive gives a negative

x = 5/8 - 3/7

x = (5*7-3*8)/56, since the LCM of 7,8 is 56

x = (35-24)/56

x = 11/56

Hence the value of the other rational number is given by 11/56.
