Given :

Sum of two rational numbers = -4/7

One of the numbers = -2/3

To find :

  • the other number

Solution :

Let the other number be X .

Now , According to the question :-

x + ( -  \dfrac{2}{3} ) =  -  \dfrac{4}{7}

x -  \dfrac{2}{3}  =  -  \dfrac{4}{7}

x =   \dfrac{2}{3}  -  \dfrac{4}{7}

x =   \dfrac{14 - 12}{21}

x =   \dfrac{2}{21}

Therefore the other number = 2/21

Answer :-

2/21

verification of answer :-

To verify your answer , add 2/21 with -2/3 . If you get sum as -4/7 then your answer is correct.

 \dfrac{2}{21}  + ( \dfrac{ - 2}{3} )

\dfrac{2}{21}    - \dfrac{  2}{3}

\dfrac{2 - 14}{21}

\dfrac{ - 12}{21}

  - \dfrac{4}{7}

Hence verified .
