Let the no. be x
x+(-5/6)=8
x-5/6=8
6x-5/6 = 8
6x - 5= 8x6
6x = 48+5
6x = 53
x= 53/6   Ans.

Given,

The sum of two rational numbers = 8.

One of the numbers is -5/6.

To Find,

The other number =?

Solution,

We can solve the question using the following steps:

It is given that one of the numbers is -5/6.
Let, the other number = x

The sum of the two numbers is equal to 8. In equation form,

x + (- \frac{5}{6} ) = 8

x - \frac{5}{6}  = 8

x = 8 + \frac{5}{6}

x = \frac{53}{6}

Therefore,

\frac{-5}{6} +  \frac{53}{6}  = 8

Hence, the other rational number is \frac{53}{6}.
