The sum of two rational numbers is -8 If

Sum of 2 rational numbers =-8

One of them=-17/9

Other number=x

-8=-17/9+x

-8+17/9=x

-8+17/9=x

-72/9+17/9=x

-55/9=x

So other number is-55/9.
