Answer:

G I V E N

p(x)=px^2-x+1

And,the zero is -2

S O L V E

So,now we put the zero in p(x),

p(-2)>p(-2)^2-(-2)+1=0

The value of p is - 1 / 2.

Given: The sum of zeroes of px² - x + 1 = 0 is -2.

To Find: The value of p.

Solution:

We know that for a polynomial, ax² + bx + c = 0,

The sum of the roots = - b / a                                                     ...(1)

The product of the roots = c / a                                                 ...(2)

Coming to the numerical, we are given that;

The polynomial:  px² - x + 1 = 0

The sum of the roots = - 2

The sum of the roots of the above polynomial can be found by using (1),

      Sum of roots = - ( - 1 / p )

                             = 1 / p

According to the information given, we can say that;

            1 / p = - 2

        ⇒ p = - 1 / 2

Hence, the value of p is - 1 / 2.
