It is true that every one of us more or less try to live up to the expectation of others, parents, teachers, friends, neighbours or the society in general. We often find it necessary to do so because of various reasons. Sometimes we don't want to hurt them and at other times we would like to preserve our personal reputation or the family's reputation.
The protagonists of 'The Summer of a Beautiful White Horse' are two small boys, Aram and Mourad, who belong to the Armenian Garoghlanian tribe. This tribe is well known in that part of the world, for their unrelenting honesty and truthfulness.
But the little boys' love of horse riding gets the better of them and Mourad had 'borrowed' a magnificent white horse from a farmer. The two boys decided to keep the horse hidden for some days so that they can enjoy early-morning rides. They succeeded completely in this. But one day the horse and the boys came face to face with the owner of the horse who was confused at the strange resemblance of the horse with the one he had lost. John Byro , the owner of the horse, was confused but he did not suspect the boys of stealing the horse, just because he knew that the boys belonged to the Garoghlanian tribe, which is famous for utter honesty.
But when he left without even a trace of suspicion, the boys were touched by his complete trust of their tribe and promptly returned the horse. They did not want to spoil the reputation of their tribe by acting contrary to it. It is to do with the psychology of human beings. When one trusts another one, ten to one, he/she would see that the trust is not breached.
