the sun appears red during sunset and sunrise. why?

during sunset or sunrise the sun is far away from that hemisphere (from where sunset or sunrise is going on) we know that white light constituting several colours. however red colour have a longer wavelength, that's why sun appears red.

Longer wavelength wave has minimum loss due scattering, and can travel long distance. Red color has longer wavelength, its intensity reach to the observer is more compare to other colors. Hence the sun appears red during sunrise and sunset.
