The main reason for the appearense of red colour of sun at the time of sunset and sunrise is due to the atmospheric refraction. Sun emmits light and whennthis light enters into the atmosphere it gets refrected and in white light of sun red has longest wavelength so the red colour disperse the most which result in reddish colour of sun at sunset and sunrise.

Answer:

Sun appears red at sunrise as the rays have to travel a larger part of the atmosphere because they are very close to the horizon.

Therefore, light other than red is mostly scattered away.

Most of the red light, which is the least scattered, enters our eyes. Hence, the sun during sunrise appear red.
