The Sun is visible to people on Earth about 2 minutes before the Sun rises above the horizon. Also we are able to see the Sun for about 2 minutes after the Sun goes below the horizon. this is all due to refraction of light rays from the sun refraction is basicly bending light like when u pout a flashlight oin a mirrior and it is on the wall behind u or what is on the mirror like a reflection hope this helps a little bit

1. The earth is surrounded by an atmosphere which is denser near the surface of the earth.

2. When the rays of light from the Sun enter the earth's atmosphere from outer space, they travel from a rarer medium to a denser medium.

3. Hence, they bend towards the normal on refraction.

4. Hence, even when th sun is below the horizon while rising or setting, its rays reach is due to refraction and it appears to be on the horizon.

Therefore, the sun can be seen about two minutes before actual sunrise.

Hope it helps!
